Someone keeps raining on my washing

A $2.00 Day

12 April 2002

Firstly, a big Happy Birthday to my cousin Johanna. She never reads this site so she might never receive that Birthday wish. Oh well,... it is nice to know that you had a birthday wish on the World Wide Web. I hope you'll all give me one when it comes around to my birthday. It's the big 30 this year. Where has all my life gone? I've done nothing except stumble from one anxiety to the next. Where are all my great works?

That heading and first paragraph breaks every single rule taught to me in my Writing for Creative Industries class. In fact, this entire site is one big huge first draft. That is a no-no. You should be splitting your time into thirds and devoting it evenly to planning, drafting and revising. My problem is that I suck at revising. I can't just revise something without screwing it up into a ball and throwing it away. To me, revision means becoming convinced that my writing sucks arse and throwing it in the bin. If I revised this web-site, I'd revise myself out of existence.

It rained on my washing again. I thought it was Melbourne that had the changeable weather but Brisbane's been pretty good at it lately. I'll get up and it'll be sunny and look perfect. I'll hang up my washing and go to Uni,... then, at that particular point in time, the clouds go grey and dump water on my clothes. I am not happy.

BTW: I managed to take the recurring loop off the Fonzie soundtrack. Now it just repeats three times - enough to make me cry.

Stuff I've gotta talk about in upcoming posts:

  • The beauty of having three AFL teams

  • Discussion about the colour scheme of my new house aka what were they thinking????

  • The errors in my DMOZ Directory entry - I am not from Sydney!

  • Getting a keg of Carlton Draft for our party.

  • Feel free to post a message on my guestbook about what I should write about. I'm happy to research something for you, or answer some questions.

  • More about Big Brother - I'll probably post that Sunday night after the show.

Mid Semester blues, Big Brother and stuff

A $25.00 Day

11 April 2002

Semester is nearly half over. It's going crazy. I've got a zillion assignments and things. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I have sworn to myself that I would only watch Big Brother (Series 2) on Sunday nights,... but I forgot that the nominations don't get read out until Monday night. So it looks like I'll have to watch Monday nights too. What do you think about the new 12 then, hey? And the 6 intruders? Well, I'm not watching the separate intruders show. That's just Channel 10 cashing in on advertising revenue and bludgeoning us all around the head with way too much Big Brother. Even I, one of the true believers, overdosed in Series 1. I am not going there again.

After watching only one show, I can say that Sahra annoys me, Nathan annoys me and I think his name's Damien (??? The guy with the heavy rimmed glasses) annoys me. I think I'll like Shannon, she's kind of growing on me. I think Mirabai is a gorgeous name. It's weird. They seem to have gone for really strong confident types this year. I'm disappointed, I was looking forward to seeing another Christina coming out of her shell. Anyway,...

I better go and let Mr Destination have his computer back.

We interrupt this lapse in updates to bring you the following Logie News,...

A $44.95 Day

28 March 2002

This year's Logie nominations are now online and I am pleased with my high level of accuracy. I so have my finger on the pulse. I know what the man in the street enjoys,... I just wish one of those media outlets would pay me for my wisdom. [sigh]

Let's go through them,...

Firstly, let me point out, as did The Australian yesterday, that the ABC got more Logie nominations than Channel 9. Gee, I wonder if that's because they don't produce much in the way of Australian content and what they do produce is hardly appealing???

  • Gold Logie - Most Popular Personality on TV:
    Rove McManus
    - Rove is right on track to win the Gold logie. He made it to the nominees list and yesterday's Australian has him tipped as the favourite.

  • Most Popular Program:
    Big Brother
    - OK, so they didn't even make it into the nominees list. I bummed out on this one..

  • Most Popular Actor:
    Steve Bisley
    - OK, if you took my most popular new talent, Samuel Johnson, and put him here, I'd be right. Poor old Bisley didn't even get into the nominations. Damn.

  • Most Popular Actress:
    Brooke Satchwell
    - OK, I'm off track again here. The nominatons list is full of,... well other people. And what is that Rebecca Gibney still doing there? I thought her career was finished. I guess I never watch Halifax FP. I find it too boring.

  • Most Popular New Male Talent:
    Samuel Johnson
    - OK, so no-one considers Samuel to be new. They do, however, consider Blair McDonagh to be new. I bet he wins it. I should have put Samuel Johnson up where Steve Bisley is.

  • Most Popular New Female Talent:
    Christina Davis
    - Secret Life of Us, Always Greener, Macleods Daughters, Home & Away,... no-one from Big Brother even got a look in with this category.

  • Most Popular Lifestyle Program:
    Gardening Australia
    - I'm sorry to say that Pete Cundall and the gang didn't even get a nomination. Backyard Blitz will take out this category, I guarantee it.

  • Most Popular Sports Program:
    Sports Tonight
    - I'm definitely right about this one. These boys will win.

  • Most Popular Light Entertainment Program:
    Pizza -
Pizza didn't make it into this category, but it did make it into the Most Outstanding Comedy Program which, I think, is an industry section. We'll see how it goes there. As for this section, I think Rove will take it out.

  • Most Popular Reality Program:
    Big Brother
    - It's gotta be Big Brother, right? I'm sure about this one. They got into the nominees list. They'll do it. Yeah.

  • Most Popular Public Affairs Program:
    Australian Story
    - It's in the nominees. I could be right about this one! Even I must admit, though, that it is an absolute outsider.

  • Most Popular Game Show:
    Burgo's Catch Phrase
    - I was right about this one too. Although there ain't much to choose from. All the crap game shows got nominated too.

Fonzie the fish had skin just like this leather jacket. It was all black with hints of orange. He was my best friend and now he's gone. He's the first goldfish I've lost since high school.

Farewell Fonzie,...

A -$1,000,000 Day

26 March 2002

Many of you will recall my joy when Mr D. gave me Fonzie, the black moor goldfish for my birthday last year. My wonderful Fonzie died today and I am very sad..

Farewell Fonzie

Your bowl is still in the same place
Everything is just how you left it
stones, aqua toys, brine shrimp
I can't make your bed
I can't take down your posters
I can't give up your memory

My little Fonzie
My little mate
helped me do the dishes
chatted about life
over chopped vegetables
and dishwater.
You looked after me
like Dr Seuss's wise goldfish in
"The Cat in the Hat".

Fonzie come back.
Fonzie come back.
You were the best fish ever.

Turn your speakers on and click here if you missed the voice of Fonzie. Hmmm. Sounds like the wave file is on a recurring loop. Oh well, we've all gotta remember my mate Fonzie. I miss him.

We're back in motion

A $44.95 Day

25 March 2002

I am such a cool computer hacker that I figured out how to download this file from the web and then alter it and then reload it. I don't need my other computer for that. I am so cool.

Speaking of cool,... I think we have recently been in the presence of greatness. Those of you who bothered to visit the Guestbook over the past couple of weeks would have noticed an entry from someone named Myron, AND, those of you with degrees in Private Investigation would have also noticed that there is a quote on my Quotes page by a poet named Myron Lysenko. I'll let you join the dots.

At this point, I need to publish an apology. I have spelt Myron's surname incorrectly on my Quotes page (AND misquoted him - how embarrassing!). I promise to correct the error as soon as the other computer comes out of it's hiding hole.

Needless to say, Myron is one of Australia's great poets. In fact, I think he's into performance poetry. You can read a couple of Myron's poems on-line at Ozpoet and a few more at his new web-site.

So much has happened in the past month or so. Yes, I've been off-line so I'm not sure how much of the detail I'll bother to bore you with.

The Clomid cycle failed again. I had a fight with my specialist about it. Normally I would be really upset, but at the moment I'm on a pendulum between indignant-I-don't-care-if-I-never-f***ing-have-kids and the wonderful-peace-that-only-God-can-bring.

I went to two lectures combined into one today, one on Gothic Literature and one on Feminist Literature. Thrilling.

Oh and by the way, what about Halle Berry's reaction at the Oscars, huh? That's one way to make a speech. I'm sure I'll do the same when I get my Pulitzer prize. I always cry too much.

We're on the move,...

A 2 cent Day

9 February 2002

Blurgh. Blurgh. Blurgh.

I hate moving with a passion. Not even the thought of living somewhere nice and sexy is enough to keep me going through the trauma of moving. What an ordeal. I keep telling myself "Baby Steps, just take baby steps,... don't look ahead, don't look at all the crap you have to pack and move and unpack. Don't do it girl!".

If only I would listen to my own sage-like advice. [sigh]

I'm about to wave goodbye to my computer for two weeks. It will be sitting in a box in a garage somewhere until we can move into our new house. That means that there will be no Destination Digest updates for two whole weeks.

Damn that's a long time.

So, considering I will have web access from my crappy temp assignment, I will be publishing Destination Digest updates in my Guestbook.

That's right, the Guestbook.

If you want to know what's going on in my world over the next two weeks, I'd advise you to check it out there.

If you still haven't seen the on-line pics of my sexy new house, then check 'em out at:

Rove for Gold Logie!

A $2.85*(Incl.GST) day

Monday, 4 February 2002

Firstly, I want to mention that I have no power over the annoying Lycos Now pop-up that is appearing whenever you load this page. I know it's a pain,... but please find it in your heart to love me anyway. [sigh]

It's time to put my logie nominations on-line. I've given TV week my thoughts and opinions. I think they took it well. I'm just waiting to hear if I got that free holiday to Melbourne. Full-on, I would skip a day of Uni for that one. That says a lot because I'm a mature age student and we don't like to miss a single moment of all that wonderful study! {Ok, you can be sick now}

The envelope please.

  • Gold Logie - Most Popular Personality on TV:
    Rove McManus
    - Rove beat out Peter Cundall from Gardening Australia. It was a tough call, but I think Rove will be the next Daryl Sommers. He's a pretty talented little guy.

  • Most Popular Program:
    Big Brother
    - Of course I was gonna say Big Brother. It was the only TV show I watched with any conviction all year long.

  • Most Popular Actor:
    Steve Bisley
    - Why? He's a bloody Aussie icon. If I had a buck for every show I'd seen him in, I'd be rich. Besides, he'll always be "Prowsey" from Frontline to me. I'm surprised it was so difficult to find a site with a photo of him. He's a dead-set legend.

  • Most Popular Actress:
    Brooke Satchwell
    - Why? I like her. She seems to have her head screwed on. Also, the successful move from Neighbours to anything else is impressive. Most ex-Neighbours stars become has-beens very quickly. Only a few have ever made it through to bigger better things.

  • Most Popular New Male Talent:
    Samuel Johnson
    - If the AFI thinks he's alright then I'm with them. On the Secret Life of Us, he really has that whole "writer thing" down. Also, I love him in that Pedders ad. No bull.

  • Most Popular New Female Talent:
    Christina Davis
    - Well, she was the best actress in the Big Brother panto by a long shot. Yay Christina.

  • Most Popular Lifestyle Program:
    Gardening Australia
    - Why wouldn't I? It's bloomin' marvellous. Mind you, it only just beat Backyard Blitz. I mean, I really do LOVE Backyard Blitz too,... but I felt like Pete got the flick from the Gold Logie, I couldn't give him the flick here too. He deserves it.

  • Most Popular Sports Program:
    Sports Tonight
    - Which sports program do I tune into on a regular basis? That's right. Others that might have got a vote if I had been in the mood would be The Monday Dump with Roy & HG, and The Footy Show (AFL) - I really miss not being able to watch that one. It's on at a reasonable time in Melbourne, but in Brisbane they show it at like, 3:00am on Friday morning. That sux!

  • Most Popular Light Entertainment Program:
    Pizza

Apart from the fact that I would just love it if an SBS show won a logie,... it is the best show on TV at the moment. I also seriously contemplated the following shows for this category:

    Rove
    Beauty & The Beast
    The Movie Show
    The Panel
    Life Support

I decided that I wouldn't vote for The Panel because Rob Sitch has become the very person he parodied in Frontline. I just can't believe him anymore. That said, I still love Santo, Kate and Glen. They make that show.

  • Most Popular Reality Program:
    Big Brother
    - It's gotta be Big Brother, right?

  • Most Popular Public Affairs Program:
    Australian Story
    - This vote is a vote for the show they did on V8 racing driver, Larry Perkins. (??? Couldn't find it in their on-line archives but I'm sure I've watched it!) It's also obviously snubbing all the major networks and their sensationalist journalism. Shame. Shame. Shame!

  • Most Popular Game Show:
    Burgo's Catch Phrase
    - Some of those catch phrases are really hard! Besides, I hate Sale of the Century, I hate the Weakest Link, I hate Who Wants to Be A Millionaire,... take those three out and you don't have much left to choose from.

So, that about wraps up my logie nominations for 2002. I hope you've all bought your TV Week magazine and lodged your votes. I've said it before, IT'S IMPORTANT! What if Rove missed out on the gold logie by one vote to that old guy from Blue Heelers? Well, don't blame me! I voted ROVE FOR GOLD LOGIE!

Check out The Vault for older stuff.
